Sam found herself drawn to the expansive depths of electronic music at an early age, cultivating a wide range of influences and particularly resonating with experimentalists such as Tujiko Noriko, Regis, and Arca. In addition to various facets of dance music serving as lifelong inspiration, S4M23 also cites shoegaze, ambient music, classical music, power electronics, and doom metal as having a profound impact on her artistry. Sam experimented with electronic music production as far back as elementary school, honing her craft and performing live PA and later DJ gigs around Boston and New England. After relocating to Chicago in 2020, S4M23 continued to refine her practice. Focusing in more directly on the dark, syncopated sound originated by Midwestern techno of the 90's and 00's, Sam began DJing at underground events around the city. Sam has since released an album on the Los Angeles imprint, Evar Records, a single for the Croatian label Low Income $quad, and has released mixes with series such as RUMORS Chicago, Research and Development, and DC's 140+. Since moving to New York City, Sam has branched out, incorporating live sets back into her repertoire and blending these eclectic sources of inspiration into energetic, immersive experiences. Now zeroing in on the universe of house music, Sam brings a versatile musical edge to anywhere she performs.
