Biografía

S.U.R.E. is just as much a concept, a state of mind, an energy, as it is a dance music production and DJ duo hailing from London, UK. From the outset, the project was born to celebrate the 90s UK rave scene, and to transmute the energy of a bygone era onto the modern dance floor… breathing new life into classic styles, and with this creating a nostalgic-yet-fresh sound. That sound has since resonated far and wide, catching the attention of the industry from the very first release, and resulting in countless BBC Radio 1 plays, chart-topping releases on Beatport and Juno, and features from the likes of Mixmag and more. Now, with a series of well-supported releases under their belt and standout sets at the likes of nightclub heavy-weights XOYO (London) and Clock Factory (Bristol), the duo is aiming even higher. Despite neither of them being UK-natives – Tim from Sweden and Luc from the US – they share a genuine passion for the energy and the lore surrounding the 90s UK rave scene. They love it… and so it comes naturally that this era is essential to the core tenets of S.U.R.E. The rave scene in the 90s in the UK was an irreplicable moment in time, from which emanated a kaleidoscope of dance music genres… acid house, hardcore, jungle and drum & bass, ad infinitum. Accordingly, the S.U.R.E. project has thus far been an exercise in musical storytelling, unearthing the energy of this period and charging the project’s sets, concept and brand with it – from their very first single ‘Feeling Inside’ rife with sonic nostalgia of the era, to their S.U.R.E. Pirate Radio series commemorating the pirate radio scene of the early UK rave days, to their unreleased material spanning twisted broken beat bangers and acidic anthems paired with 90s skate video visual aesthetics. The duo casts a wide net in their productions, and yet have a clear foundation to their sound – a melding of breakbeats, vintage rave samples and synths, and a lot of bass. The result is a mix from house to jungle that leaves no dance floor unperturbed… from 110bpm to 175bpm, from house to breaks to garage to hardcore to jungle and back again, all while retaining the signature S.U.R.E. energy and the foundational principle of recapturing the essence of an era. This unique approach has fast-propelled the duo into the contemporary dance music canon, their music featuring from the festival circuit to the airwaves of Rinse and Radio 1. The pair have also themselves presented on countless radio slots across UK stations, last year even touring their S.U.R.E. Pirate Radio concept, a series celebrating the 90s Pirate Radio scene in the UK and its cultural intertwining with the rave scene of this epoch. Their Hardcore Energy Series mix, something of a dance music history lesson of 90s rave context, was selected by Mixmag as one of the best mixes of the 2023 (link). 2024 has seen new releases, a long list of features (Beatport, Data Transmission, Undertone, Skiddle and more), the launching of their own event series, and soon following, their new record label imprint Super Uphoric, which they manage from their music studio and creative home in Shoreditch, Matter of Time Studios (link). From there, they run sessions with other artists, community events, and too many creative side projects to list succinctly.
