Rubie
Biografía
Centering her hyper-expressive vocal, piano playing and distinctive textural production style, Rubie brings classic songwriting forms into contemporary experimental context, leading a rallying call for queer siblinghood in a time of political struggle and uncertainty. Ranging from power ballads to art pop to folk rock, her writing presents slippery manifestos and builds defiant worlds in the face of trauma, oppression and apocalypse. Recent projects include the EP 'Whatever Cage', released in October 2023; soundtracks for 'Tops' by Amy Pennington (FACT and Studio Voltaire) at and 'Honey' by Sahjan Kooner (Eastside Projects, Birmingham); musical directing and co-writing songs for mycelial musical 'Be More Mushroom' (St. Margaret's House, Kew Gardens); and residencies at Bothy Project and PRAH Foundation. Rubie also plays in choral xylophone pop band Jenny Moore’s Mystic Business and feminist punk choir F*Choir.
