Born and raised in New Kensington, PA, Royce (ROJO) Jones is a multi-skilled DJ, Event Curator, Actor and Journalist. He graduated from Valley High School before earning his bachelors degree in Broadcast Journalism at Point Park University. Prior to his career in nightlife and acting, Royce honed his storytelling skills as a seasoned and accomplished journalist for several years. His dedication and advocacy for the community, especially the BPOC and LGBTQ+ communities through his journalism work helped earn him both a Golden Quill Award and Vann Award as well as an Emmy nomination. Royce has made a name for himself in the underground and mainstream music scene in Pittsburgh as a DJ, Nightlife Promoter and founder of “Twirlosophy,” a Black/Queer lead music and events collective with events, featuring various genres, all across the city. ROJO's passion and love for music began at a young age. His mother, a music lover herself, would often pull out her old cassette tapes with music from the 70's and 80's and reminisce about the thrill of living through the disco era. The two would dance and sing for hours while having their "Living Room Disco's" together. They even had a rotating, multicolored disco ball. When he finally became old enough to enjoy the club-life himself, it wasn't long before ROJO found a another home away from home on the dance floor, offering him a chance to escape his own world, explore the mind's of others and build community. As ROJO puts it, discovering dance music and the dance community helped him find confidence and comfort in many parts of himself, including his queerness. These were some of the small, yet impactful moments that helped spark ROJO's interest in music and nightlife culture years ago. Now working in the industry, these memories continue to keep him grounded and energized to create new memorable experiences for others to someday share, while also remaining dedicated to helping push the industry further towards diversity, equity, unity and acceptance. Whether on stage, screen or behind the DJ booth, Royce believes in the healing power of music and storytelling and hopes everyone who experiences a performance of his, leaves feeling renewed, enlightened and inspired.
