Rirkin
Biografía
RIRKIN learned to mix when he was 10 years old from his older brother who was a hiphop dj in college. Being influenced by underground rap/hip hop, jazz, roots reggae, punk, and ska, rirkin always made sure to keep his ears to the underground and away from the radio.
In 2015 he moved to a small town outside of Chicago and immersed himself in the old school house scene working in clubs, attending shows, and renting studio time to further his craft and love for underground roots music. There was always this duality of House and Techno, both so timeless, true, and raw; yet the skill to blend both was always the goal and the digging never ceased.
Weekend trips to Detroit unveiled a whole new world of music, people, and a culture like no other place in the world. Having deep family history in Detroit there was always a pull to make his pilgrimage to the city which embodies raw, hard-working, gritty, underground music.
Rirkin linked up with Zen Zero and VSRL to make 5th Dimension Detroit a fresh force in the Detroit Techno and House community focused on roots, underground, and raw music, no mickey mouse gimmicks. They hosted free outdoor events every weekend the past year in the Dequinder cut and then at Valade riverfront park in the winter and bigger events at the High Dive in Hamtramck, Tangent Gallery, the Magic Stick and Marble Bar. Traction has been good and there is no sign of slowing down.
