The Los Angeles based duo known as Religion consists of Kevin Stewart and Nick Dew. Kevin's career in the music industry was sparked by his need to produce music. However, he was unable to afford the needed equipment associated with production and decided to do the best next thing - become a disc jockey. Purchasing his first turn tables for only $500, Kevin began DJing in Victorville, CA in 2003 at the age of 19. Kevin's DJ career started with playing hip hop and old school tracks in local clubs, the same place he also ventured into playing House, Drum N Bass and Trance for recreational purposes. In the next two years he established his hip hop DJ name, Intell, as well as working as a stage Engineer for many concerts and artists such as Lil Wayne, Julez Santana, Jim Jones and many more. In addition to playing clubs such as the Key Club, Pig n' Whistle and Level 3 Nightclub in Hollywood, Kevin performed and played for such great Dancers and Choreographers to stars like Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Robert James Hoffman III, Dave Scoot, icon Debbie Allen, Ivan Urban Action Figure, Janet Jackson, Missy Elliot, Christina Aguilera, & more at “Choreographers Carnival” at the Key Club. Not to be outdone by Kevin, Nick's musical background is just as impressive. At the early age of 7 with a developing ear for music and the love for art, Nick's parents enrolled him into music school . This would later lead him to be a symphony & band performer in middle and high school playing in the drumline. In 2002 his interest in Djing took shape playing indie music, house, and hip hop at colleges and night clubs . Nick then moved to Los Angeles to pursue a acting career that he had been doing on the side of music. While living in Los Angeles, Nick and Kevin reunited as friends and began their duo Religion. It didnt take them very long to recognize that their appreciation of music combine with talent and a strong desire to be successful would enhance their careers as artist. Soon after the electroflying duo Religion was formed the group began producing music that has been described by audiences, fans and peers as refreshing, innovative and mind blowing and can be found on blogs all over the world . They have performed at numerous nightclubs, raves, and other assorted events bringing with them a high level of energy and "a sense of rawness" as quoted by Nick of Religion. Realizing they had a massive following they decided to partner up with Sam Hiller who works for Groove Radio International to start a nightclub in Los Angeles September 2009 at the legendary Arena/Circus Nightclub in Hollywood. They decided to call the night Groove. There Religion has played for a crowd of 1500 to 2000 weekly every Thursday at Groove (www.myspace.com/electrothursdays) .
