Born in Flint, Michigan—the heart of industry in the United States—Daly grew up in a musical family with the Detroit house scene as a backdrop. A classically-trained pianist, drummer, and guitarist, Daly pulls from this broad musical vocabulary to bring melodic hooks, interlocking rhythms, and complex textures to his tracks. Daly also spent more than a decade as a journalist with publications such as Details, Esquire, Wired, and The New York Times. His reporting has taken him from the Arctic Circle to the mountains in Uganda, from the Mayan cenotes to equatorial glaciers to data vaults hidden deep in the Alps. His music bears the influence of his travels and exposure to unique musical styles and instruments, including Brazilian and African music, Persian classical music, Indian ragas, and the Balinese gamelan (which Daly has performed in). REFRAKT has performed in Los Angeles, New York City, Tulum, and Berlin, as well as at Life Is Beautiful festival in Las Vegas and Untold festival in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, where he will return in 2022.
