Born in Peru and based in Madrid, QECHUABOi continues to push the boundaries of electronic music with his innovative approach. His latest live project combines techno and dembow into a hybrid style he calls TEKBOW, reflecting his bold exploration of genre and rhythm. QECHUABOi has cemented his status as one of Peru’s most recognized producers and DJs, both locally and internationally. He gained prominence with his tropical bass creations, which are rich in experimental energy and characterized by their vibrant, chaotic brilliance. His reputation is further enhanced by dynamic live performances and collaborations with esteemed labels like Terror Negro, Matraca, Folcore (Barcelona), Chiguiro Records (France) and Regional (Chile), among others. A key figure in the tropical bass movement of the past decade, QECHUABOi was once the master of Lima’s dance floors. Now residing in Europe, he continues to release music, albeit at a more deliberate pace than during his prolific early years. His creative process takes place in a minimalist setup with only a sampler, monitors, and dim lighting. While he traditionally starts tracks with drums, he is now experimenting with oscillators, reflecting his ever-evolving artistry. “I define myself as a beatmaker—that’s my official label. Colloquially, from a Peruvian perspective, I’d say I’m a ‘sound prankster,’” he shares. “I’m driven by intense emotions. I make beats rather than songs, and I feel deeply connected to hip-hop.” QECHUABOi’s work continues to resonate, blending raw emotion and innovative beats that challenge conventional boundaries in electronic music.
