Three is the magic number. And as the name would suggest, the New York DJ collective of Stewey Decimal, Allie Bell and Marosy - aka Pleasure Jams - have been dispensing their positivity-forward brand of danceable pleasures all over NYC and the world since 2015. Allie Bell and Marosy - New Englanders turned New Yorkers - first came together in their native Burlington, Vermont in the late aughts over mutual love of the new genre “nu-disco”, classics and house music in a place that, despite its rich musical history, lacked a home for what they wanted to dance to. So they built one. Beginning in 2008 Marosy and three other local DJs started a party in the small, hippie enclave of Burlington as Bonjour-Hi, with guest appearances by many of the musical mainstays of the time, like The Juan MacLean, Lunice and Ninjasonik. Allie Bell would eventually join the collective, and the seeds were planted. At the turn of the decade, the trio would eventually find themselves in New York City for their own reasons. Allie Bell and Stewey Decimal - who first met in 2003 - reconnected after over a decade and found out that they had both fallen in love with dance music on their own. Thus, with all the pieces in place, Pleasure Jams was born. Pleasure Jams (the party) has grown from their original home - a small bar in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn, to primetime slots in some of the best rooms in New York City. The party has played host to top tier DJs such as Nancy Whang, Fouk, Razor-N-Tape, Joe Corti, Jacques Renault, Tom Noble - and the list goes on. Today, Pleasure Jams are residents at NYC’s newest nightlife behemoth, Elsewhere, but make regular appearances at the raver favorites: Good Room, Jupiter Disco and Bossa Nova Civic Club. Most recently, they have put themselves on the map in an unconventional, but timely way, by organizing a series of online-only Digital Dance Party fundraisers to benefit the same clubs that they call home. Their efforts landed them back to back mentions in The New York Times and Time Magazine.
