Swedish-Ukrainian DJ and label owner Pjotr (aka The Redhead Baby) has been an integral part of Swedish nightlife for over a decade, DJing and holding residencies in the most respected venues of the capital. A typical DJ-set of his is varied and personal, but a common denominator they share is that they always tend to lean towards acid house-focused material. Whether it is intense jacking four to the flour combined with deceitfully catchy hooks, or quirky left field “far-out-there”-experiments – the squelching bass line is ever present. Pjotr prefers to move on the border of house and techno, flirting with melodious electro, “dance mania”-style jams, and deeper electronic territory. Building up tension only to tear it down and starting fresh. Highs, lows and unique unexplored moments in between is what he desires. 2016 Pjotr founded his label Red Curls, which he views as not just a space for unknown unbroken talent first and foremost, but also an extension of his DJ-sets. Just like these, the label is diverse and nonlinear, but with a thread (what is the point to release what somebody else will do anyway?). The mission is to be off the beaten track, and it comes instinctively for someone seeing himself as a natural outsider. The first release heard acid house punk-trio Bottoms being remixed by Kassem Mosse (the same producer who Pjotr also borrowed his voice to for his acclaimed debut album on Workshop Records in 2014). Following releases have included Swedish electronic pop-act Penelope, backed up by remixes from Physical Therapy, Roger 23 and Rolando Simmons, as well as oddball house duo Osynlig Fetma including a Mix Mup remix. Spring 2019 sees newcomer Gordo release the fifth installment in the Red Curls discography, a five-track house odyssey named “Gordo Town”, dedicated to the producer’s home ground LA. Pjotr also holds a residency at Stockholm’s most cherished and respected club venue, Under Bron. Furthermore he is also one half of the celebrated ambulant gay night Polari.
