Overgivelse
Biografía
In the pulsating heart of Italy, where melodies intertwine stories and rhythms mark life, Julia is born, destined to become DJ Overgivelse, a name that would dance on the international music scene like a symphony of hope and transformation.
The daughter of an enthusiastic DJ, Julia grows up in an atmosphere saturated with funk and soul music of the '80s. Her childhood is a mosaic of notes and rhythms, with memories of falling asleep with headphones, cradled by the waves of trance and progressive house. From a young age, music is not just a background but a secret language that speaks directly to the soul.
As the years pass, the collection of cassettes and CDs in her room bears witness to a passion that goes beyond simple listening. Music becomes her refuge, her companion, a deep bond that expresses itself in classical dance and learning the transverse flute. With the flute, Julia discovers a new universe of sounds, an experience that gives her an ethereal lightness, different from the emotional intensity of the piano.
However, before travel and exploration become a central part of her life, Julia faces a challenge that could have broken anyone. A serious accident immobilizes her in a hospital bed, threatening her mobility and her fervent passion for music. During the long months of hospitalization, pain and uncertainty become constant companions, but it is in music that Julia finds her salvation. From her hospital bed, with a laptop and headphones, she begins to compose. Each note is a cry against despair, each melody a promise of rebirth.
Overcoming the difficulties of the accident, Julia regains not only the use of her right leg but also a renewed determination. This forging experience teaches her the value of resilience and self-determination, becoming a fundamental essence of her artistic identity.
After her recovery, Julia embarks on a journey of personal and professional discovery. Luxembourg, Dubai, and beyond, places that, although rich in experiences, lead her to confront a sense of artistic inadequacy. It is a period of introspection and spiritual growth, a time to study the influence of frequencies on consciousness and to seek a balance between the different spheres of life.
It is in this context of research and transformation that "Overgivelse" is born, meaning Surrender in Danish.
Her stage name becomes a manifesto, a symbol of her fight against conditioning and a declaration of artistic independence. "Over", "Give", and "Else" intertwine in a name that represents an elevated vision, the sharing of her art, and constant evolution.
One of the highlights of her career is the creation of "Monkeys living la dolce vita". During a spontaneous recording session, "Kune mambe" emerges as a profound expression. Initially shrouded in mystery, these words are later discovered to belong to the Shona language, meaning "there's a maybe". This discovery transforms the track into a bridge between cultures, a symbol of the unifying power of music.
Julia's life is a mosaic of highs and lows. Her return home after years abroad, awakening after the accident, and return to a festival in London are moments of pure joy. But she also faces periods of difficulty: the distance from her family, the loss of musical identity, and the inner chaos during the pandemic.
Through these experiences, Julia learns that music is much more than simple listening. Each performance, each track, becomes a journey into the depths of her soul, an exploration of authentic emotions.
Today, looking to the future, DJ Overgivelse continues to explore new musical frontiers. Her story is a journey of discovery, growth, and artistic expression, a path that allows her to express her true essence and touch the lives of others, bringing light and hope in the darkest moments.
In DJ Overgivelse, the world has found not just a talented musician but a storyteller, a dreamer who weaves melodies of resilience, hope, and transformation.
