Nikia starting making hip hop beats at 17 years old, gradually becoming influenced by the San Diego underground rave scene. He quickly grew interested in trance music and began to DJ local raves, sampling trance songs in the studio, combined with hip hop beats. This led to a complete shift in his beat making style and he began producing various trance projects, eventually learning to produce several house music styles outside of trance. This also led to a shift in the events he would DJ. He began playing an Afro-Latin house music party called TOOMBAO, and later transitioning into the current Afro-Tech party CHOCOLATE. Today Nikia's musical style could be described as alternative house music, combining his trance roots with his current Afro and Afro-Latin style.
