Nate (Det)
Biografía
Despite growing up in the birthplace of techno, it wasn’t until he moved to Germany as a youngster that Nate fell in love with dance music. Upon moving back to Detroit, he dove deep into the history of the motor city’s music lineage to discover and appreciate the roots of the raves he’d experienced abroad. After a year of obsessive digging and listening, and a revelatory DJ set by Claude Young, Nate decided to begin to share the sounds he’d grown so fond of.
Today, he can be found spinning and grooving at essential Detroit venues like TV Lounge, Foxglove, and Paramita Sound, always with a smile on his face and a deep sense of gratitude for the people and music around him. His mixing is diverse but cohesive, ranging in genre from UKG and bass to 80s acid house and modern broken techno, all while keeping a solid sonic foundation built on Detroit, Chicago, and Berlin. In his sets, ferocity and industrial grit are never far from deep-hearted brightness and soul, and vice versa.
Club culture depends on those who appreciate the past yet still push things forward to maintain a sharp edge. Whenever Nate gets behind the decks, disparate genres are brought together and presented in a way that highlights and reveres dance music’s heritage while staring unflinchingly ahead into the future of the movement.
