Tom's love for African music started with his Dad who would play him records from Fela, King Sunny Ade, The Bhundu Boys and Lijadu Sisters as a child. Much of his father's African record collection now resides with Tom in his own collection at home in Frome, Somerset. With 20 years of experience running parties and club nights, he has recently DJed at Good Vibrations, End of the Road and Frome festivals and held a summer residency at local venue Marston Park. The Mother of Mankind radio show started during lockdown and explores the music of Africa, one country at a time. The journey around Africa has now covered more than 20 countries, and has featured interviews with a number of artists, including Chief Boima of the Kondi Band, Kora player Seckou Keita, Cuban Pianist Omar Sosa, Simo Lagnawi of Gnawa London and Electric Jalaba, Sudanese producer SUFYVN and author of A Quick Ting on Afrobeats, Christian Adofo. In 2021 he created a bespoke audiophile soundsystem designed to showcase the voices and instruments of Africa.
