Monolithic is the pseudonym of Jun Torii, a Brooklyn-based music producer and DJ originally from Japan. With a multicultural background, Torii draws sonic influence from his experiences living in Ann Arbor, Coventry (UK), Frankfurt am Main, and Tokyo before settling in New York. From lo-fi house to breakbeats, Torii crafts a diverse range of captivating sounds. His signature sound is characterized by the heavy use of distorted Roland TR-808/909 drums, warm pad synths, and emotive melodies. Monolithic initially gained recognition through Bandcamp and caught the attention of influential tastemakers such as Houseum, Slav, Moskalus, EELF, and Majestic Casual. His music resonates with both club enthusiasts and music aficionados worldwide, exemplified by his 2017 single "Alone With You," which has accumulated over 3 million streams since its release. This EP has even earned an independent 12" vinyl pressing on Eyewitness Records. Torii's other productions have garnered support from renowned artists including Disclosure, Cinthie, and Lxury. Torii is a frequent presence behind the decks at various underground club hotspots in Brooklyn, including Mood Ring, Bossa Nova Civic Club, Good Room, and Public Records. Additionally, he regularly makes guest appearances on prominent Brooklyn-based online radio stations like Newtown Radio and The Lot Radio. With a steadfast commitment to independent music promotion, Jun Torii has personally overseen the release of the majority of his original tracks through his self-funded and self-managed imprint, Platonic Solids Inc.
