Luke and Owen, aka Monica, have been members of the dance floor generation since their late teens. Although not always with a focus on House and Techno they both respect that you can't help but move to groove. And with heavy influence from music played to them (Marvin Gaye, Gloria Estefan, Duran Duran, The Eagles, Depeche Mode, Joy Division to name a few) by their respective parents its no question as to why their hearts have guided them to this genre of music. The two met during a Pan Pot gig back in the Spring of 2015 and since then have spent the majority of their friendship exchanging music they have heard in a bid to find a sound that suits them both. The duo don't always share the same love for every record they have in their collection but the underlying passion they both share means that any record they play will follow in suit perfectly with the previous and the next. This is often put to the test on their weekly Radio show on Codesouth radio (Brightons number 1 underground radio station), when the duo pull out tracks to almost test the other, to see if they can keep the groove going. The duo have often been invited to play at the parties hosted by the station or by the This is_ event promoter, most recently alongside the likes of Sidney Charles and Sante for the Avotre label showcase in Brighton. Monica's first real taste of Brighton came in the shape of an offer from Nightshift Records head honcho, Sami Kubu, who invited them to record a mix for the labels monthly podcast a year ago. The mix was well received and from that they gained some proper experience, playing for the labels Beach parties and later at the club MONO. Since that first mix, Monica have been invited back to record another two mixes for Nightshift, both again well received by not only Sami, but many other peers on the Brighton scene. Monica also were invited to play on the Souloud stage at one of Devons newest music festivals, Lemonfest. Here they shared the stage with the likes of Rowlandz, and Subb-An to name a few. A proud moment for the up and coming duo. Playing what is sometimes considered just out of the "popular taste" of music in Brighton, the duo soon caught the ears of Tom Luka, co-founder and curator of Missing People, and soon they were invited to play alongside Luka and Ulex (the other co-founder) for the Missing People parties. Here Monica were able to stretch their taste more and play music that is true to their hearts. The relationship with Missing People is growing stronger and already have been lined up to play more parties in the future. More recently Monica have become residents for one of Brightons best underground parties, Berlin-Brighton. After being given the honour of opening proceedings for the 3rd Birthday celebration party, held at the home club space The Green Door Store, Monica gained the respect of the Berlin-Brighton honcho, Markus Saarländer, and had their latest mix added to the Berlin Mix Tape series in January 2018. This mix confirming Monica's place at the Berlin-Brighton parties moving forward, already confirmed to play on parties with the likes of Waze & Odyssey, Jeremy Underground, Alex Niggemann and many more. With more dates to fill in 2018, Monica will be hoping to build on their portfolio, and with all spare time being spent in the studio, they are looking to add some personal touches to their music collection.
