Biografía
MOMODA’s fresh blend of House, Afro and Techno has been moving local
audiences all the way from Beirut, Barcelona and Lagos where he is a
regular since he started DJing back in 2012 and has consistently proved
that he not only knows what a good DJ does, but that he embodies it.
Moe explains how it all started in Nigeria by creating a House Movement
back in 2011, working with local organizers and booking international DJ’s
to come play in Lagos once a month, creating a scene in Nigeria has been
his best achievement as the electronic music scene was new to them.
Playing for hundreds of clubbers every month, his outlook on DJing
remains simple. "There's that feeling I get before I start to play is hard to
describe, but it’s the reason I love to play. I love the idea that you can use
songs to create movement and using music to connect with the crowd
When I am playing, I want people to be excited because I am playing
something fresh and different, introducing new music all the time and I want
them to think, I can't wait until the next time" Moe explains.
Now with a brief residency at Hotel Miramar Barcelona in 2021, I’ve
relocated to Barcelona and start making a name for myself here, playing in
Spain feels like he’s playing home. Moe was first introduced to the club
scene in Barcelona in 2003 when he relocated to study, the electronic music
scene was so big with Clubs like Pacha, La Terraza, having headliners
every weekend. Back then, he was an avid club-goer, but he hadn’t started
DJing. However, dance music and clubs quickly inspired him.
Although Moe has no formal musical training, he worked hard on his Djing
skills, and relied a lot on what his gut told him. "I count on instinct and
sound. I always play for the crowd, I don’t stick to one style or sound." Moe
explains. “When I search for records, I always go through different Genres.
I look for something that's original and fresh. I always keep the dancefloor
in mind and I try to imagine what kind of effect a track with have on the
crowd.
As long as my personal taste isn't compromised, I really try to play for the
room and for the different crowds in the room” Moe explains.
The opportunity to watch the big names close-up is the reason he thinks he
has been able to thrive as a DJ and educate different types of crowds on
the sound he loves, “Being on the dancefloor watching Dj’s perform is
where I gather my knowledge and inspiration”.
