Biografía

Growing up between two worlds shaped MJULA long before he ever touched a mixer. Born in Germany, raised in Fort Lauderdale, and eventually drawn back to Europe — his life has been defined by transition, adaptation, and the ability to find rhythm in unfamiliar territory. For years, that rhythm played out on the basketball court. Born as Malik Müller, MJULA competed as a professional athlete in Germany after a Division I college career in the United States — an environment that taught him what it means to perform under pressure, to read a room, and to trust instinct over hesitation. That same mentality followed him into music. He discovered his passion for DJing and production at 27 — still mid-career as a player — immersing himself in the sounds that had always moved him: the deep, percussive warmth of Afro House, the swing and heat of Latin House, the tension and drive of Tech House. Artists like Black Coffee, Shimza, Solomun, Jamie Jones, and The Martinez Brothers didn't just influence his taste — they defined the standard he holds himself to. Behind the decks, MJULA plays with the patience of someone who has learned that timing Is everything. His approach is architecture-focused — sets that build deliberately, shift in texture, and commit to a direction. Combined with his use of analog effects modules layered over a 4-deck Pioneer setup, his performances carry a live, tactile quality that separates them from a standard DJ set. Since emerging in the NRW scene, he has played venues including Rudas Studios and Nachtresidenz in Düsseldorf — where his House of Freaks event built an early local following — as well as Nikki Tiger in Hamburg and Bootshaus Cologne, one of the highest-ranked clubs in the world. 2025 marked a turning point internationally: a solo tour through Mexico and Colombia took him to Bonbonniere in Tulum, Dinsmoore in Mexico City, Toxxic Club in San Luis Potosí, and Capri Club in Bogotá. As co-founder of UNXPECTED alongside ALVARO J, he has been equally active as an event creator — building community-driven experiences that prioritize atmosphere and intention. On the production side, his collaborative Tech House track Where U Going Mama? with Travmkind and ONINE has gained significant cross-platform traction since its late 2025 release, finding its way into DJ sets internationally. The transition from athlete to artist is complete. The work, as always, is ongoing.
