Mis-Ty delivers melodic vocal style with raw emotion. In her formative years, she was classically trained in voice instruction, played the trumpet, and frequently traveled as a youth to sing in choirs and perform with touring ensembles. In 1995, this 15-year old high school graduate began college and found her niche at the college radio station, WKDU 91.7 FM. A regular at local events in the tri-state underground electronic music scene, she became known as Mis-Ty (which formed from "Miss Taryn") and gained popularity through her solo-produced radio show, "Wicked Jungle". A host of Guest DJ's would spin on her all-drum and bass (a form of electronic dance music) radio show, giving rise and support to local talent and parties. In 1996, she became "First Lady" of the Substitution Crew, a collective of musicians invested in producing electronic music events, including the infamous Sutpen's Jungle parties. Having DJ experience and an intense knowledge of music doubled her strength as an MC, and vocalist. Taryn was a background vocalist for the band Subtle Ground from 2000 to 2002, performing at Black Lily and other notable events at the height of the neo-soul movement in Philadelphia. From 1997 through 2003, she traveled frequently throughout the United States and Canada to sing, sharing the stage with performers such as the Jungle Brothers, and Jurassic 5. She emceed for dozens of UK, US and Canadian jungle / D&B and house music DJs, performing parts of original scats, songs and covers over top of electronic music. In 1999, Mis-Ty lent her vocals and lyrics to J-Smooth's jungle record titled "Come With The Realness." She was also the featured emcee on the Syrup Girls first CD release. In 2018, she was the vocalist on Valiant Emcee's "Mic Check" also featuring Armanni Reign and Will Miles. MisTy describes herself as an "MC by default" because she identifies with singing more than rhyming - both of which she has done for several decades. For the past 20 years, she stepped up to MC at the request of her musical brothers in Fuzed Funk and Jungle Room and at various events over the years, and is grateful to be here today.
