Elite French house music DJ/producer Michaël Canitrot continues to enjoy an extraordinary career. From the very beginning, Michael has held residencies at iconic Parisian dance venues, curated the runway sounds for fashion industry mega-brands such as Prada, Dior, Cartier, Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana… cherry-picked the red carpet music at Cannes International Film Festival, and performed for audiences on top of the Eiffel Tower and at the Palace of Versailles. Flickering through his discography, he has released on iconic labels including Warner, Universal, Hed Kandi, Defected, Ministry Of Sound, Spinnin'... His Spotify numbers are impressive, with over 10 million streams across his releases and hits as 'Chain Reaction', 'Pantheon', 'Young Forever’, 'Sucker For Your Love’, released on major labels. In addition to being the founder of international club brand ‘So Happy In Paris’, Michael is a regular on France’s national radio station Radio FG, regularly tours Asia, South America and Europe, and is also a headline resident at Lio Ibiza. Releasing Dance Music and House since 2010, in the studio, Michael continues to grow without following a pigeonholed formula. As well as his album Face To Face, the two compilations he dropped for Defected Records are obvious standouts. Michael's Playboy Sessions mix is as glamorous and sexy as Hugh Hefner's illustrious lifestyle brand, yet reassuringly clubby and electronic, leaving his debut compilation, So Happy In Paris, to embody the essential characteristics of Paris' best known party by way of an eclectic selection of melodic grooves and classic piano anthems. Those closest to Michael will tell you that music has always been his first passion. The young Parisian was raised in a home where music was a fundamental part of life. His father worked as a DJ for a notable radio station in Paris, while his mother liked to play Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder records on the family turntable. By the age of eight, he was already curating mixtapes in his bedroom, which he would share-out amongst his friends and family. When Michael was just 17-years-old, what began as a hobby finally became a profession. His big break came at Les Bains-Douches, a premium-grade, invite only nightclub where beautiful A-list icons such as Roberto De Niro, Grace Jones and David Bowie spent the better part of '90s hanging out. After making the most of the opportunity he was given, Michael began programming parties with dance scene heavyweights David and Cathy Guetta, who were responsible for managing the club's musical output at the time, and created a new club night called « So Happy in Paris ». At the turn of the millennium, Michael secured a second DJ residency at the city's extravagant Queen Club. For Michael, the advent of So Happy In Paris remains a career defining moment. Now a globally recognised party brand, the insignia is renowned for presenting live DJ performances inside distinctive spaces, including the Eiffel Tower, where Michael staged a one-off party to celebrate So Happy In Paris' 10th anniversary or in the mythic Olympia to a sold-out show in 2013. Michael’s next big opportunity came when he was asked to curate the red-carpet music at the Cannes International Film Festival. Rather than curating a typical club set, the challenge here was to set the mood for those feature films competing for the prestigious Palme d'Or award. Michael explains that this was one of the most intensely challenging experiences of his career. When Quentin Tarantino unveiled his controversial war epic, Inglourious Basterds, at Cannes in 2009, Michael's skilfully arranged introduction medley famously made the Hollywood director break into an impromptu dance. Other memorable moments from Michael's eight year stint on the world's most illustrious red carpet include warming-up for Irish rock band U2, who gave concert in Cannes during the two week festival back in 2006. With DJ skills honed and having played in the big clubs of the world through South America, Asia or Europe, Michael Canitrot represent the new French Touch all over the world and in Ibiza where he spent much of 2019 headlining a brand new party concept at Lio, Ibiza's most avant-garde dance venue. By way of combing house, disco and a plethora of deeper dancefloor cuts.
