Biografía

Melo-D (The Funkaholic): "I was brought up on Soul, Soca, Rare Groove, Ragga, Reggae and Lovers Rock. There have always been musicians in my family and they owned “Sounds” back in the day when they were younger. This gave me a passion for music and an urge to excite people with the music I’m playing. I have been Dj-ing for eight years now and I started DJ-ing on Drum and Base and Old School Garage. I used to wait for my older brothers to get in from raves like “La Cosa Nostra” and “Cool Skool” to find out what the latest tunes were. I was known for being able to mix all genres of music in the same set from a Bashment tune to a Slow Jam to a Funky tune then I’d move to Old School Garage all at the same tempo. I’ve been listening to House music for years but I got interested in Funky, Soulful and Tribal House around 2006. I use to hear tunes everywhere I went, mostly people playing songs on their phones every day and to be honest at first I didn't even like it, but the more I heard the more it fascinated me and I realised I could do a lot with the beats. In 2010 I started to explore more House genres and I got more into Deep, Tech, Minimal House. I started practicing with a few tracks and I thought “yeah I’m on this!” Since then I’ve been persistent on understanding the genre... House is highly influential... when I hear a new track, it’s a challenge! I think of which tunes I can mix it with and the reactions I will get from crowds when I’m playing! I listen to House everyday now, if I don’t listen to it in the morning my day doesn’t go as well as it could LOL. I’m working towards pushing the UK House scene world-wide. I've got a few projects on at the moment which I’m hoping will push the boundaries of the underground House scene and help promote it internationally. I also want to open doors and set up platforms for the next generations to get involved in music and give them the ability to expose their talent through a positive medium. The name ‘Funkaholic’ came about when I made my 2nd mix CD in Summer 2008. I've been DJing for numerous years but only in Spring 2007 I decided to put my material out there when I believed that was the best time for me to promote myself, as that was a peak time for CD's to be played in cars, houses etc. That mix CD was called 'Funky Fantasy' and was a mixture of UK Funky and House tracks. I was shown a lot of love for my 1st CD and thought I should market myself with a brand or something that should represent what I'm about. So a year later, Summer 2008, that's when I came up with Funkaholic. Since then I've been called 'The Funkaholic' as an alias name / an alter ego, a somewhat of a dark side on the decks when mixing. At the moment the musical flavours that 'Funkaholic' congregates are • Soulful • Deep • Tribal • Tech • Minimal • House • Nu Disco"
