Mélanger Le Miel (Mixing Honey) is a talented 21 year old musician who is currently based in Melbourne. Having grown up in Geneva, Switzerland and having studied in Edinburgh and Auckland, his global outlook is reflected by the way he curates/digs/researches music to formulate his own sound tapestry. With a monthly residency on Area 3000 Radio, a Melbourne Radio station reporting live from Revolver Lane, (Sebastian) hosts a show titled 'Mélange presents - A Brief History of Electronic Music in a specific nation'. The first episode consisted of a 2 hour mix of Brazilian electronic music - exploring everything from samba and bossa nova inspired 80s' house music all the way to fast paced hardgroove and techno. If anything, "these mixes focusing in on a niche part of the world allows for true digging and contacting artists from those places, something that I believe lacks in how we find our own music today", says Mixing Honey. Area 3000 radio is a mark in Melbourne's immense EDM scene, hosting guest mixes from Narciss, X-Coast, Girls Don't Sync and Kessler all in the past month. Recommendations from top Brazilian artists including Renato Cohen and Daniela Mercury provided unheard tracks that they believed encompassed Brazilian EDM - many of which are impossible to find outside of Brazilian borders. Outside of this, Mélanger Le Miel plays piano/synths in two successful Melbourne collectives. 'Flavour' is a 6-piece funk/neo-soul group that incorporates electronic synths and house beats into a Tom Misch- inspired sound. With successful releases on Spotify of their new single 'Much of a Muchness' the group goes from strength to strength with performances at some of Melbourne's best gigs including the Gasometer, and Glenferrie Music Festival. Sebastian also plays keys in the duo 'The Heart Shaped Aces', a british-rock inspired group who also have received much recognition following singles of 'Devotion' and 'Fake A Smile' on Spotify. This is all simultaneously at the same time that Mélanger Le Miel has started his own record label Mélange, which is the same alias for his new startup music platform - a single newtork of musical, digital and visual artists from Australia and Europe who are given a page to display their work, collaborate, network and inspire other artists. Between these mega-projects, expect varying sets each time that Mélanger Le Miel steps up to stage. Mélanger le Miel translates to Mixing Honey in french, and Mélange translates to blend. Inspired by Four Tet, salute and 4AM KRU, you may experience a Jungle and Drum and Bass set, you may hear a UKG blend on vinyl, and there is truly nothing you can do about it.
