The name MelaQ is derived from the strong influence the vaporwave cultural current has had on the artist. It recalls the dysfunctional act between human beings, the web, and the digital technology that surrounds them and is a representation of the distortion resulting from their fusion. The Macbook keyboard shortcut COMMAND (or MELA) + Q, like the old PC command Ctrl+Alt+Cancel, is used to quit, exit or reboot a program, in case of problems. As a stylistic trademark, the artist uses the sounds of the surrounding environment and of distortions with high frequencies. That’s why he calls this genre of music “hi-fi”. His genre is a mix and he is classified as an IDM (intelligent dance music) artist, offering a repertoire that is both aggressive and melodic, sometimes making extensive use of feedback and distortions. Among the inspirations, there are styles such as acid house and experimental deep. He uses elements such as strings and pads to blend sounds, an element that has often characterized his music. Massi Franceschi was born in Bari in 1987, approaches music ad self-taught with vinyl and cd, also guitar, piano, and later as a performer and sound maker.
