Mechanic (CA)

Oliver Lasry, aka The Mechanic, is a Montreal DJ and record collector working in the deep, dark progressive space. He comes from an industrious family and grew up around machines, always more interested in how something ran than how it looked. He started working as a mechanic around the same time he started going to raves, and the two worlds never really separated. Days were spent under cars; nights were spent on dance floors. The shop taught him patience and feel: you don’t rush a rebuild, and you don’t rush a room. That discipline still drives his sets. The turning point came at Stereo Montreal. Watching John Digweed work a room for hours, Oliver saw the same thing he’d learned under the hood: power isn’t about revving hard, it’s about control, about knowing when to ease off, when to push, and how to keep everything running smoothly over the long haul. He walked out of that night with a new idea of what DJing could be, and started building a record collection soon after. Since then he has played across Montreal’s dance floors at Newspeak, Velvet, Emerald, NWHR, YGM and Floral Nights, with international appearances at Paradiso in Stockholm and Guitana in Athens. He has also recorded guest mixes for Shift Radio, No Diploma Records and Elephant. In 2024 he stepped out of the booth for two years to take his performance apart and rebuild it. He returns with a Xone:DB4, a heavier crate, and the same mechanic’s instinct: listen closely, find what drives the machine, and keep it running until morning.
