Maxwell Sterling
Biografía
Maxwell’s debut record Hollywood Medieval (Death of Rave, 2016) was a cult success, a work which set out his fascination with the glitches between the traditions of acoustic and synthesized music. Laced With Rumor: Loud-Speaker Of Truth (Ecstatic Recordings, 2020), originally commissioned by Nottingham Contemporary gallery and was a piece inspired by the artworks of Moki Cherry. His third album, Turn of Phrase (AD93, 2021) is a body of work cleaved from time, taking inspiration from both Gregorian chants and hyper-modern digital processing and synthesis; Maxwell’s musical style also extends to improvised jazz and orchestral music. Most recently in early 2022, his collaborative EP with Martha Skye Murphy, Distance on Ground (American Dreams, 2022) was released; a tape born out of several improvised recording sessions and comprised of two long tracks focusing on the immediacy and live creation of musical communication.
