MATSUBA is a rhythm duo formed by Edanoshin Katsura, a Kamigata Rakugo storyteller carrying on the tradition of Kansai’s performing arts, and Lewo Chyba, a computer musician active in underground Techno scenes worldwide. Their unique music production method harmonizes the linguistic rhythm and cadence inherited from Rakugo with the electronically controlled beats of Techno. In their live performances, Edanoshin Katsura takes the mic while Lewo Chyba skillfully manipulates the synthesizer. The unit’s name is derived from Shofukutei Matsuba, a Rakugo performer who once thrived in the Kamigata region. MATSUBAとは、落語家の語調を音楽的に捉え、テクノの電子音と掛け合わせたリズム・ユニット。 関西の伝統芸能である上方落語の噺家、桂枝之進と、世界のテクノシーンで活躍するコンピューターミュージシャン、レヲチバによる2人組。 ライブでは、桂枝之進がマイクを握り、レヲチバがシンセサイザーを駆使するパフォーマンスを行う。 ユニット名は、かつて上方で活躍した落語家・笑福亭松葉に由来している。
