Mars Kasei has possessed an extraordinary connection to music since her early childhood. She mesmerized family members when she, accompanied by mariachis, channeled the spirit of Selena and Vicente Fernandez through heartfelt Spanish melodies. Eventually, Mars immersed herself in music and devoted herself to learning how to play instruments, namely piano and guitar. In the early ‘10s, a move to Los Angeles found Mars in a vibrant creative hub where she discovered a passion for footwork and juke. After a return to the Bay Area in the mid ‘10s, Mars honed her skills with a sharp focus on juke. This passion eventually helped birth Moonlight Council in Oakland in 2019, followed by event series, "Club Triste," in 2022. In her immersive DJ sets, Mars makes it a point to transcend borders, transporting audiences on a trip through global club sounds, drawing from juke while also incorporating reggaeton, dembow, hard drum, gqom, and British club sounds like UK garage and grime. She has shared the stage with luminaries including Addison Groove, Heavee, INVT, Regal86, Loris, DJ Noir, and DJ Manny, Drawing inspiration from higher tempos ranging from 140 to 160, Mars combines elements of jungle and juke, creating a genre-defying sound in the process. Within her original compositions, ethereal soundscapes mingle with lush pads and her own self-sampled vocals. Her unique approach to music has helped land releases on esteemed labels including Moveltraxx, Worst Behavior, Juke Bounce Werk and Samsara Beats. Collaborations with the likes of Qrion have helped solidify Mars’ position as a rising star, inspiring a devoted following across the UK/EU, North America, and Mexico. Climbing to the summits of Beatport charts, her tracks have found a home on influential playlists and her mixes have been featured on revered platforms such as Unchained Recordings and Aire Libre. Infused with the essence of her surroundings while drawing inspiration from the underground renegades of the Bay Area, Mars’ music channels the natural world's energy as well as mid-rave euphoria. These interludes interweave with chaotic breaks, evoking the exhilaration and cathartic release found within renegade enclaves nestled in forests, storage units, and gritty nightclubs.
