Marc Matter started DJing in the mid-1990s, when he was a co-founder of artist's collective Institut für Feinmotorik. Around 2000, studies in sound art and experimental composition with Anthony Moore and being in the orbit of A-Musik in Cologne. There, he also co-ran GrüeziKlub (with Shumi and Okinawa 69) at Gewölbe Club. When Salon des Amateurs (Düsseldorf opened), Marc became part of it, not just as a resident DJ inviting artists of a large bandwidth (from Water Lily and Plastique du Reve to Sound Stream, Die Vögel, Matmos, or Black Dice). Since around 2010, a new field of sound creation is at work: sonic poetry and word composition, where language turns into sound and music. Many works for broadcast and some releases emerged from that, a work that is ongoing, demonstrating a strong curiosity about the connection between language and music, sound and sense. After a ten year hiatus, re-entering DJing since 2025. Since the beginning, an important aim was to mix historic and contemporary music and sounds, as well as selecting across genre boundaries, additionally including odd noises, field recordings, or spoken word to the sets. A strong influence was – and still is – experimental music and sounds that transgress the definition of music.
