As a kid, Malcolm (then under the name DJ Emelle) began Djing on local pirate radio station People’s FM, supplying his local community with a show consisting of mainly Hip Hop and house music, whilst beginning to make very basic hip hop and house beats himself. By the early nineties having played a few parties and secured regular spots at the infamous blues parties in Leeds a the time Twilight and Sonny’s, Malcolm teamed up with Dougie Bug and DJ Beks to form production team Cromatone Express. The team relocated to London and released a few tracks on labels including Dave Beer’s Back to Basics and Afrocat, run by Matt Jam Lamont. Once the UK Garage scene had “developed” into a more MC led sound, CromatoneExpress decided to opt out and DJ Emelle was no more as Malcolm set about concentrating on developing his production skills over “serious” Djing and earned a living as a professional DJ in many of London’s bars such as 10 Rooms, Smollensky’s and Noble Rot. In 2008 after a return to his hometown of Leeds, wanting to fill a deep and soulful music void in the city, Malcolm held the first Afro Coalition parties which led to the hosting of Peven Everett at The Wardrobe as part of a group including Dean Creole, Sy Legg, and Euan Mitchel, amongst others such as Jagga of Very SoulfulProductions. The four members continued Djing and hosting parties in the city, attracting great names such as Phil Asher, Atjazz, Spen, Karizma and Jazzy Jeff whilst being invited to DJ on events alongside the likes of Frankie Knuckles, Norman Jay, Gilles Peterson, Lil Louis and Roy Ayers plus were asked to play at the last ever Southport Weekender, Minehead, UK. Already playing over most major city's in the UK; London, Manchester, Birmingham, Liverpool etc. Malcolm's sets can be heard providing the sounds on the dance-floor for audiences in European countries including Spain (Vocal Booth), Croatia, Sweden and in 2018 Amsterdam as part of ADE for the third year consecutively. With a residency in the city plus a monthly Radio Show on KMAH Radio, in 2016 Malcolm launched record label RedKyte Records to release his and his AfroCo crew members music plus other unknown and more established producers. With a few releases under the label's belt, including "Thank You" on the Atjazz Record Company label expect to hear more from Redkyte and Malcolm on other labels soon.
