Mohamed Maks (nicknamed as Maks from childhood) was born in the capital of the United Kingdom, London, in the year 1988 to Egyptian immigrant parents. When Maks was in school, he began to play the drums and other percussion instruments, influenced by his native rhythmic music culture. Though his love for music was clear, he never considered himself as a musician. In the early 2000’s, he began to collect records and featured for local youth foundation events ‘Bigga Fish’ as well as appearing on popular pirate radio station ‘Passion FM.’ In his early days, Maks was influenced from growing up in the garage and jungle music environment. Today, he takes inspiration from Chilean electronic dance music visionary Ricardo Villalobos, as well as other artists such as minimal techno innovator Richie Hawtin, ‘Perlon’ label co-founder Thomas Franzmann aka Zip, ‘Minibar’ label head Cabanne, and ‘Fabric’ and ‘Houghton Festival’ curator and resident DJ Craig Richards. After 25 years in London, Maks moved to the Middle-East, quickly establishing himself as a leading artist and influential figure in the growing regional electronic dance music scene. Viewed by many as the originator of minimal and microhouse music in the region, Maks paved the way by inviting, and collaborating with, some of his favourite artists from Europe and around the world, most of which had never appeared regionally before. At the end of the decade, Maks founded ‘Deserted’, a record label curated by his own interest and vision of music. The first release is planned to appear during the winter of 2023.
