I became acquainted with the goth scene in 1995 as a Marine in San Diego. There I met Bryan Pollard who has run Klub Therapy for the last 44 years. He showed me the basics of DJing and running events. When I left the military for my hometown of Santa Cruz, I was dismayed that the home of Lost Boys didn't have its own club, so I set out to start one. I had heard of a DJ named Yarry (DJ Magus), who spun at a previous Santa Cruz event called "The Tower," so I recruited him into my plan. The Box was born on January 11th, 1999. I DJed there until about 2007 under the moniker "DJ Effendi" until I had to move further away for work. Now that I have moved back to Santa Cruz for good, I am thrilled to be embraced with open arms by the community of people who have kept the dream alive these many years! I am returning under the name "DJ Maker" which embodies my other passions including art, music, and scientific discovery.
