Most notably known as Magnolia Polaris, Hooks Nueva York has given this musical project a physical manifestation & world of its own. Originally launching as a DJ act in 2017, Magnolia Polaris has been in a constant state of evolution since it’s inception in 2014. I t took years of development to encapsulate a sound and energy that would reflect the magnitude of this entity. Described by Hooks as the personification of Divine Feminine Energy, the very creation of the project comes with a back story of how it has reached its place in New York & the very origin of the name itself. The name Magnolia pays homage to their grandparents’ favorite flower & Polaris is directly inspired by its proximity to Iceland which is where one of the initial members is from. Polaris is the scientific name for the north-star. It was created for an imaginary “love child”. Magnolia Polaris: Is also a unique name in that it could quite literally translate to “Flor De Las Estrellas” in Spanish or what one would initially think of as “Star Flower” : a combination of something both astral and terrestrial. In 2018 they became one of the co-founders of the Experimental Latinx Collective: Sazón Department which is known for their celebratory gatherings highlighting the LatinX diaspora. The collective aims on expanding what the Latin-American musical landscape will look like in the future. Writing music from a young age Magnolia Polaris knew that they were fated to produce a sound of their own and this project became the singular life force behind every endeavor and goal. In 2019 musical artist & composer Sebastian María jumped on board as the Executive Producer/ Co-writer of the Magnolia Polaris project and thus “Flor Inmortal” was released on New Year’s Day 2020 as their 1st Single. The thematic essence of this aesthetic leaves one curious to see where this interstellar inflorescence leads. As an artist, dancer, musician, & DJ it’s fair to say we have no idea what to expect from Magnolia, but perhaps something we have all yet to experience.
