Madeline fell into dance music as a high school student, regularly escaping their east bay suburb to attend 18+ raves and bloghouse parties in San Francisco. They picked up DJing after moving to the Midwest for college in 2012 and becoming involved in Northwestern's noncommercial radio station, WNUR 89.3 FM. Madeline was deeply immersed in the radio, holding two weekly shows - one during the experimental Rock Show daytime segment, and one during the late night live-mixing Streetbeat segment - and became the station's General Manager in 2015. A chance meeting with Gramaphone records owner Michael Serafini when the two had consecutive shows during the Streetbeat block began a friendship that eventually led Madeline to join the store as an employee in 2018. Madeline has become a staple in Chicago's LGBTQ+ underground nightlife since debuting publicly as a DJ at Viafest in 2014. Their selections are always informed by a Chicago house mindset - though no genre is off the table during a Madeline set. They're a regular guest at Smartbar's Queen! and have played numerous venues across the city including Berlin, Danny's, The Whistler, Sleeping Village, and more, though you're equally likely to find them selecting downtempo and new wave records at a bar or banging techno on CDJs at a DIY rave. Madeline's debut EP, Unlearning, will be released independently in fall 2022.
