DJ // PRODUCER // VOCALIST MEI has been experimenting with music from the age of 4 years old. Raised in a musical family, MEI became fascinated with music from a young age, delving into a variety of different instruments. She experimented with piano, singing, violin, guitar, clarinet, and saxophone, but remains passionate about piano & singing till this day. Listening to her tracks & mixes, they are all her own original playing & vocals. You can hear her classically trained musical influences in the melancholy melodies she produces. The underlining progressive, deep techno perfectly contrasts her soprano, ethereal vocals. After high school in 2012, MEI moved to Beijing, China where she attended her first year of university at 北京师范大学 (Beijing Normal University). Studying the Mandarin language & Chinese culture. She was magnetically drawn to the big club scene there and immediately had her heart set on DJing. Her DJ name, MEI is the first character of her Chinese name, “美莲“- which in English translates to “beautiful lotus blossom”. The character 美 simply means beautiful. When asked why she decided on this she explained, “I loved the sound of the pinyin and I loved the symmetrical nature of the character. The lotus is a symbol of resilience, which is always one of the traits that I look for in other people and that I continually want to embody and promote”. In 2016-2018, MEI moved to the UK's capital, London, to start her DJ/Production career. She attended Subbass Academy of Electronic Music for DJing and soon after had her first gig at Ministry of Sound - the most famous club in the UK’s capital, London. She acquired residency at Ministry of Sound and Egg Nightclub - another of London’s top 3 hottest venues. She joined the collective Till Last Track where they toured around Italy, Ibiza, Barcelona, Madrid, Tenerife, and London. MEI has played along side top talents such as Pan-Pot (Electric Brixton, UK), Roberto Capuano (Ultra Beat, Italy), Lost Frequencies (Ministry of Sound, UK), Andrew Rayel (Ministry of Sound, UK), Drunken Kong (Ottawa, Canada) - to name a few. In 2018, MEI made her next big move to Los Angeles, California to start music production and attended the #1 DJ Mag voted Electronic Music Production school: Point Blank Music School. During her studies, she acquired residency at The Standard Rooftop hotel downtown LA. Today, MEI is currently residing in Toronto.
