Lumina
Biografía
After some time buying and playing vinyl to each other, they bought an atari and some gear and started making music. Alison quickly became lost in the sounds, mixing, production and vocals and Helen in playing synths, modelling sounds and twisting knobs. They spent years messing about, but a healthy disregard for the business of music meant that much of what was written was lost or stayed on DATs, hard-drives and mini-discs. Normal life also intervened and their collaborations ebbed away at various points, only to keep reconnecting, as iron filings to a magnet. Now both working mothers, its harder than ever to get anything done, but the drive remains strong, confidence and skills grow.
A few fresh pieces have emerged, one of which has been picked up by Dogmatik, another forthcoming on Jenifa Mayanja's Bumako label. The central ethos remains though; it's the doing that creates the meaning, the rest is irrelevant really, creation for creations sake, an essential survival technique to navigate this world.
