Born in the East End of London, Lisa was a bit of a wild child growing up and it was whilst she was still at school that she first encountered the Capital’s nightlife, often playing truant with friends with elaborate stories concocted to stay out clubbing all night. Lisa left school and went through a succession of jobs in glamour and advertising modelling after being spotted by a photographer who sent Lisa’s pictures off to the Sun/Daily Star newspapers which kick-started her career as a calendar model. Whilst modelling in the red top newspapers and in between advertising assignments for Nescafe Coffee, hand creams and washing powders, Lisa got to spend more and more time in the Capital and became a face on the club scene. In particular she was a regular as such club nights as “Kinky Disco” at Shaftesbury’s and Sean McCluskey’s much loved “Love Ranch” nights at Maximus and the enigmatic Fat Tony’s much talked about “Fierce Child” nights at Maximus/Mars club. Lisa became enchanted by the whole night club scene, the music, the DJs, the people and glamour and as Lisa recalls “the euphoric feeling to be what you wanted to be and to do what you wanted to do, there’s nothing more exciting than the darkness of a club with the club throbbing to the sound of a DJ who is in tune with the dancefloor and the crowd.” Lisa soon came to realise that the DJ was the central character in a theatrical production inside a club. Soon she began to realise the power that was drawing her to become a DJ. Lisa was hooked on the music playing in the clubs at the time and began making trips to her local record shops to buy the tunes that she danced to at the weekend. In fact it wasn’t long before Lisa’s vinyl record collection began to take over her house, ironic at the time as Lisa didn’t even possess a pair of turntables! Lisa recalls “I just looked at my record collection one day and thought I’ve got to go out and buy a set of turntables to start playing my music.” Lisa bought her first set of technics and from there, after many hours of practice and mixing, the rest they say is history. The natural progression from a love of music and Djing in her house was actually manifest itself into a reality when Lisa prepared her first mix tape. It was on an outing one cold December night in 1996 to “Bambina” run by Debbie and Rick, the promoters behind London’s ultra promotions of the time, Puscha, that Lisa handed that very first demo tape that she had prepared in her house and that was later to secure her a coveted residency at Puscha, London’s most glamourous club night and party organisation. Lisa wowed the ultra-glam crowds at Puscha, the doyenne of London’s social glitterati of the time with her party crowd friendly sets. In fact it was Debbie & Rick who added on the “Pin Up” bit to Lisa’s name and which she was later to become known as “Lisa Pin Up”.
