“So called Vancouver” based Dj, Event Curator, Community builder and Researcher, LIONESSA, expresses her Queer Egyptian - Canadian identity through unlikely blends of North African percussion Arabic scales and vocals that drive story telling coupled with pulsating bass and an apathy towards any one specific genre of electronic music. Her selections are filled with hypnotic and sensual sounds of darbuka and global influences. The purpose is to weave sounds that paint a journey of curiosity and questioning. Questioning of times, expectations and belonging. In Vancouver, LIONESSA has supported globally prolific SWANA artists like Saliah, PekoDjinn and TootArd. She brought never done before event curation that blends culturally nuanced Performance art with visually and sonically immersive experiences through Co-founding her collective 'Egyptian Street Meat'. Egyptian Street Meat is an all queer Egyptian collective of performance artists and Djs. She has closed down the iconic Cairo Jazz Club, Bar Franca in LA, CommonWealth in Calgary and performed on the golden coast of Dahab, Sinai. Her dream is to bring her culturally influenced sound to every corner of this planet and share moments of magic and movement with kindred souls.
