BIO:
SHORT VERSION ***
Behind the decks since 1995 and a whole life dedicated to the world of music Lele Sacchi is now internationally recognised as one of the icons of Italy's electronic, house and alternative music scene.
In these twenty years behind the decks he has completed an all around the world trip djing in the best clubs, events and festivals (from Los Angeles to Shanghai, from London to Ibiza and everything in the middle), has recorded music initially with the studio project Boogie Drama and more recently under his own name (releasing tracks for some of the coolest electronic and house labels such as Moodmusic, Soul Clap, Systematic, 20-20 Vision, Get Physical and many others), for many years the driving force behind Milan's most lauded clubbing temples such as Magazzini Generali int he 00’s decade (the reference big venue for quality music in Italy, voted best club by MTV and hosting the cream of the scene such as Richie Hawtin, Chemical Bros., Jeff Mills, Ricardo Villalobos and so on…) or the resurgence of legendary Tunnel from 2010.
Playing on all the tables of showbusiness like only a true contemporary dj every weekend he runs Radio2 Inthemix on state broadcaster Rai since 2012, is one of the founders and directors of the Elita company, mainly known for its annual festival during Design Week (since 2006 has hosted artists as wide as Four Tet and Mos Def, Nicolas Jaar to Loco Dice) and teaches ‘history of dance music’ at prestigious Istituto Europero di Design (IED).
Being from the capital of fashion he’s constantly asked to play and soundesign for style brands and exhibitions (stable for Trussardi and consulting for the likes of Adidas, Timberland, G-Star, Toyota, Mercedes etc…).
He sits as a judge at the world’s first ever talent show on dj’s and electronic music, TOP DJ, on air on SKY tv.
Italy’s biggest newspaper ‘La Repubblica’s supplement ‘TuttoMilano’ put him among the 25 people that forged Milan in the past 25 years.
COMPLETE **
Lele Sacchi started his career in music quite early. At 15 he was already presenting a radio show on a small local radio (playing punk, hip hop and indie rock) and at 18 he was contributing with nationwide music magazines.
But it’s in 1994 that he understands his deepest love is playing records in front of an audience. In 1995 he has his first big break becoming a resident dj at TUNNEL (the focal point of underground Milan in the 90’s) from where in a very short time he gets known on the italian scene for his sets made of the newest most cutting edge underground dance music.
In the meantime he starts working in the records industry with a job inside the Right Tempo family. In ’98 he becomes a consultant for the music distribution company called White&Black, managing a number of cult international labels for the italian territory.
In 1999 his first mix compilation ‘The Next Tribes Of House Music’ is released and it’s a success that gives his first inernational spotlight. The CD is ‘album of the week’ on the then most important weekly of the dance music world, the british magazine 7 (the review ending up with the phrase ‘Quite simply superb’). Thanks to this successes, to the first international gigs and the always growing gigs aside the top world dj’s, Lele Sacchi ends up behind the decks of JETLAG, the friday nights of Milan’s MAGAZZINI GENERALI in the year 2000 (a residency that went on for 12 years), the night attracted 1500 people even on a resident’s night and the booth sees both giants of the club scene like Carl Cox, Chemical Bros., Basement Jaxx, Sven Vath etc…and the newcomers of the time as Ricardo Villalobos, Steve Bug, Tefschwarz and co. passing by as guests. By the house community it is reverred as one of the best clubs in Europe (and MTV viewers voted it best italian club in 2004).
In this same year he starts the ten releases only SOUNDPLANT records project, a label dedicated to QUALITY music for dj’s. The releases are always supported and charted by a range of top world dj’s from the whole spectrum of the scene going from Dave Clarke to Groove Armada.
With the release of his second mix CD, ‘House Emotions’, Lele Sacchi imposes to a wider audience his elegant style that fuses house music, electronic sounds and echoes from the past. Lele’s gigs from 2000 to 2005 are in some the best clubs around the world of the era (from the Rex and Batofar in Paris to The Key, Cargo and Ministry of Sound in London, from Zeppelin in Moscow to the Sullivan Room in NY, from Space and Privilege in Ibiza to La terrazza and City Hall in Barcelona) and he gets asked to play exclusive special events such as the official Madonna’s Milan concert aftershow, Prada’s Christmas party, the Biennale art in Venice or sounddesigning for catwalks and exhibitions (for the likes of Pitti, Diesel, New York Industrie, Adidas, Fornarina, Edra, Moroso…)
From 2004 to 2011 the recording project BOOGIE DRAMA with studio partner Sandiego is a stable name in the charts and in the trends of the world’s underground house and electronic community. It started to hit the shops first with the remix of the house-punk hit ‘Who Said’ by Planet Funk and from then with trax and remixes for labels like the germans Wasnotwas, MOODMUSIC, GET PHYSICAL, SYSTEMATIC and LIEBE*DETAIL the english 20-20 VISION (as Sacchi & Sandiego) and INFANT, french legend BRIQUE ROUGE and Soundplant of course
Full support and charts by cult dj’s like Andy Weatherall, Layo & Bushwacka, Ralph Lawson, Ivan Smagghè and excellent reviews on the international magazines (being given accolades as tech house singles of the month on DJ MAG with ‘Dancing in the Darkness’ in 2006, Cut of the Month on France’s Only For DJ’s etc…or on charts like Beatport deep house sales top 15 with ‘Magnetic Shore’) and have been licensed to cult compilations as ‘BUGNOLOGY’ by Steve Bug and GLOBAL UNDERGROUND by Danny Howells.
In the meantime 2006 sees Lele Sacchi founding and directing together with a likeminded group of persons ELITA festival, at the beginning a three-day long event which will be described as ‘THE soundtrack of the design week’, and now a ten years old festival and full on company running all kinds of artistic related events.
In 2008 he starts teaching a course on music subcultures at IED (European Institute of Design), an highly respected private univeristy.
From 2009 to 2015 Lele Sacchi and partners took over and revamped TUNNEL, a much loved venue in Milan which was ricking decay and started a new weekly clubbing adventure with the perfect atmosphere to host the dance underground's cream of the crop as Dixon, John Talabot, Carl Craig, Tale Of Us and so on.
The last years has seen Lele get the public eye in Italy to another level:
From January 2012 he starts hosting a weekly radio show on national state FM RAI called RADIO2 INTHEMIX which now airs 3 times a week (such an important profile that ended up being the only actual international statewide FM to be granted official media partner of Sonar Barcelona)
In 2014 TOP DJ, the first talent show in the world dedicated to the world of dj’s and electronic music begins to be aired on SKY TV and Lele is chosen as a main character sitting as one of the three judges in every single episode.
Shows at some of the most important clubland’s spot around as Circoloco at Dc-10, Snowbombing, SonarPro, Timewarp and the most influencing small clubs and sharing booths with the usual suspects of electronic music’s royal family came flowing.
A the same time he launches a string of new productions under his own proper name with new music for 20:20 Vision (as Sacchi & Sasse), MOODMUSIC, remixes for SOUL CLAP records,
for Dave Seaman, and new singles coming early 2016 (one with legendary nyc band BLONDE REDHEAD for REBIRTH records) and one for the much lauded INTERNASJONAL (Prins Thomas’ label).
The LELE SACCHI 20 Years In The Mix celebration party of 2015 has been accompanied by huge italian media feedbacks and the nation biggest selling newspaper La Repubblica named Lele Sacchi in the list of the 25 people that shaped MILAN in the past 25 years.
