She explores the way in which the manifestation of contemporary Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, Balkan folklore and computerised, punk music, can act as subversive counterpoints to homogeneous, nationalist narratives. Her new album Fucklore, delves into the pockets of anarchy, mourning and exuberance, she finds in traditional styles, sounds and ceremonies surviving on the edge between the existentially worn-out, and ferociously alive. It touches on topics such as the murders of migrant women in Cyprus, micro-histories that deviate from grand narratives, seeking to trace conceptual and critical affinities between the fight against nationalism, and the reinvention of folklore in the spirit of a queer phenomenology.
