Katharine has been influencing dancefloors with her sideways house on the Australian East Coast since 2000. She is resident at FiftyFive Bar in the city, where she plays a 5 hour vinyl set monthly, and most recently played a 3 hour vinyl set of deep minimal at the celebrated Breakfast Club. She and her musical partner Ben Abrahams ran eight years of award winning Saturday nights at Elsewhere Bar on the Gold Coast. Katharine played psychedelic house before Ben's killer 5 hour sets, then both joined together for the heaving sweaty early morning hours, bringing the underground West Coast minimal house experience to Australians. They created ‘Strange Brew’, an all ages acid-house vinyl party at the Billinudgel Pub, Byron Bay; reveling in the outback for sunset was deliciously surreal. The famous Shed which was built there was inspired by their early parties! Katharine had the first of her two children before returning to Melbourne and putting on high-vibe parties at the infamous Killing Time Bar & My Aeon, always with a tight crew of Australia’s best underground djs. Now they have their forward thinking electronic music label Motion:Theory:Music, representing local artists Jules David and Timmus, and internationals such as Vincent Casanova, with releases by Herck, Jay Tripwire, Terry Francis and MTPS next up. Selekt Sessions is her new mix series with Rupert Wall of Brooklyn, and Last Pines was their first guest! She showcases pioneers of the minimal sound they love, with jazz, breaks and micro:house influences. Katharine makes mixes for underground minimal labels around the world, including vinyl only, and can't help but connect producers and label owners she meets who she feels should know one another. This month she has mixes coming out for YARN Records in Belgium, Gasoline Radio in the Ukraine, the Melbourne Music Room for Skylab Radio and her opening set for Vadim Svoboda's 'Script Club', will be out on Youtube - a fresh minimal session which set the scene for his online clubbing experience. Her take on minimal draws those who appreciate smooth mixing, sophisticated rhythms, drama, a classy euphoria & strange whimsy. She has been mixing for Romanian collectives for over a decade, having long been recognised for her way with intricate sound, including Feeder Sound, the Microtechno series, Art E Romania, and more recently - Half is Enough - their Strangers in the Night series. Katharine appreciates music which alludes to the transcendent. *Feeder Sound said “her recordings are intense and with a sophisticated perspective on sounds and rhythms." She mixes deep ambient into stirring minimal grooves, and has done so for Yokoo's Satya Label, as he called her 333Flow Byron Bay mix: "bananas", and also for Miromu of London & Romania. As an undeniably charged up being she just keeps on lovingly creating fresh soundtracks for her friends’ lives.
