Kat Richmond plays a combination of psychedelic minimal house and techno. She has really developed her style of music over the last ten years playing out in clubs across London, and at festivals all over the UK and across Europe. Her personal experience in the booth has also made her an advocate for equalisation of line ups and has worked closely with other DJs to change the make up of the club scene in London. She was one half of live electronic duo Arsenic Mines with Andy Green for many years. They performed their house and techno using Ableton and rigged their violins with delays to add layers of dub infused strings over the top of their music. This led to other opportunities to work with other artists such as Addictive TV, and with legendary singer Damo Suzuki (CAN) as one of his Sound Carriers. Kat founded Walthamstow's Electronic 17 music community back in 2014, which originally formed as part of the Stow Festival programme to showcase local electronic music DJs and producers living in the north east London neighbourhood, but quickly it took off as its own brand with club nights and day festivals popping up in various venues over the years. She has had many guests play at her Electronic 17 parties over the years, such as Ashley Beedle (Xpress2 / Black Science Orchestra), Leif (Freerotation Festival / UntilMyHeartStops), Ewan Pearson (Misericord / Kompakt), Lascelle Gordon (Vibration Black Finger / Brand New Heavies), Faze Action (Faze Action Records), A Guy Called Gerald (808 State), Justin Robertson (The Deadstock 33s / Lionrock), Timothy J. Fairplay (The Asphodells / Crimes of the future), and Mercury Music Prize winner Talvin Singh. Kat is also a resident of Buntu, Samantha Blackburn's party in London with parties at Beduin Bar, Sedition, Egg London, Rolling Stock and Basing House, and was invited to play at the Afrocentric Records closing party at ADE 2019. She will return to play this summer at The Castle after a couple of years off to look after her twins! She is the co-promoter of Dungeon Module, Timothy J. Fairplay's party and label. They hosted a launch party in November 2019 at Unit 58 with special guests Black Merlin, Cestrian (live) and Agnes Aves joining Tim on the line up. They followed it up with a US special at The Waiting Room where Tim was joined by Rebecca Goldberg (Detroit Underground / 313 Acid Queen) making her UK debut, and Texan DJ, Chupacabras (L.I.E.S. / Nitsa Barcelona), who launched his new EP on L.I.E.S Records. The label has done three releases so far on cassette and digital through Bandcamp, as well as Clone managing the rest of the digital distribution. Kat has guested on various radio shows over the years on MyHouseYourHouse.net, East London Radio, Soho Radio, Threads Radio as well as podcast series' DeepDaze, House Music Movement, Good Vibes, Midnight Express FM, Deep Love, and Petrichor. She hosted a quarterly show on Mutant Radio from 2020-22, and is now hosting a bi-monthly show called Distant Dreams (Part 3) on NARR Radio, showcasing newly released minimal electronic music from across the globe. Kat managed the Glittering Plains stage at the Barbican’s Walthamstow Garden Party festival each summer. She programmed two days of continuous music inviting local DJs / promoters to play alongside students from the electronic music courses in Waltham Forest, as well as headliners for each day. The festival attracted up to 35,000 festival goers each year and was one of the best free festivals in the country. She was also director of the Stow Festival between 2015-19, a grassroots music festival that took place over four days in 25 venues across Walthamstow.
