While lifelong musician, event producer, and discerning selector, Justin Shaffer was born and raised in New York City, he has spent the last decade gathering people and building community in San Francisco. In 2024, he now splits his time between SF and Berlin. Justin’s musical journey started young, picking up the cello at age 6. After 11 years of classical training, he then pursued jazz via the tenor sax. Concurrently, he cut his teeth in the mid-late 90s NYC underground house music scene, a period from which he continues to draw inspiration. Curious and focused, he shifted his energy from classical and jazz performance to studio work and audio engineering. This path eventually led him to a deep commitment to creating exceptional experiences, with the better part of the last decade spent focused on audio engineering, learning musical curation, and organizing events, predominantly with the Robot Heart crew. For the past few years, Justin has shifted his musical focus to DJing. An enthusiast and a passionate storyteller with a critical ear, he is becoming known for a deep musicality in his expression of the craft. Relentlessly crate digging through his frequent travels, he continues to expand his esoteric and avant-garde vinyl collection that he plays from. This perspective has allowed Justin to build a deep sensitivity for what’s right in the moment, and he is comfortable playing in any context for any duration. His sets have moved dance floors in California, New York, Nevada, Mexico, Germany, France, UK, Italy, Greece, Australia, Costa Rica, and India - with no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
