Biografía
Jungist is Hong Kong born, Eora/Sydney based DJ, producer and promoter. Her selections are broad, yet maintain a broody, grittiness. Often setting the scene with cinematic soundscapes, noise and ambience; Jungist finds a way to bring it back to dark drum and bass and hypnotic rhythms. Jungist is inspired by urban life, the queer community, sound system culture and resistance movements.
Jungist has shared a lineup with international artists including Air Max 97’, Loefah, Mad Zach, and Keeno. She has been featured on independent radio including FBi, Nomad, Skid Row and Orbital radio. She enjoys DJing in club, warehouse and doof settings as well as taking the time to craft mixes for radio and internet mix series. Jungist currently volunteers at FBi radio hosting the all-nighters.
Jungist is co-founder of events and mix series, Decay Audio. Born out of a passion and thirst for a darker sound, the Decay weekly mix series showcases talent from around the world, offering artists a platform to experiment and break away from convention. Decay have put on two parties in the last three months. The last event at The Bridge Hotel in Rozelle was a marathon 14-hour rave which sold over 700 tickets and featured over 20 artists curated by Jungist across two rooms and an outdoor space with surprise guests Loefah & Patrice to close. The event was selected as RA pick. Jungist is currently working on exciting projects with Decay including a Noods Radio residency as well as a sit-down performance at award-winning venue, Phoenix Central Park.
Jungist has self-released various demos on soundcloud and plans to release music via various label later this year. Her productions are spacey, industrial and dubby with a healthy dose of breaks and bass. Jungist's debut release "Dark Room" features on Sydney-Based "water label" Bass Water Freak Out.
Outside of music Zoe works full-time at a not-for-profit in the mental health space, organising mental health training for health professionals across Australia. She is passionate about mental health, harm reduction and community engagement. With her events, Zoe aims to create safe and inclusive spaces and to systematically radicalise nightlife diversity and combat ageism, tokenism and sexism through diverse and sincere programming that reflects the wider community.
