Producing music under the synonym ‘jtamul’ since 2016, he self-released Pasparlak mixtape, an exploration of rhythm and Turkish Pop in 2018. After Pasparlak mixtape’s local success, Planet Mu sub label Object Ltd. released two EPs by jtamul: ‘Lubuni’ in 2019 which explores queer linguistics in singing and ’Paramparça’ in 2020 which engrafts experiments of rhythm and Istanbul club music. As a DJ, jtamul played at Boiler Room, Sonar Istanbul, RedBull Music Festival Istanbul, Grounded Festival Ljubljana while also playing regularly in local venues; Şahika, Banger, Bigudi, Sumahan and local party series; XSM, Çığlık Çığlığa. With high energy and sweaty dancefloor sets flowing between genres, jtamul became one of the key figures in Istanbul’s underground dance music scene. Apart from producing and DJing as ‘jtamul’, Mertcan also produces tracks for other well beloved Istanbul based artists; Ceytengri, Akış Ka. Most recent release of jtamul ‘Oha Yuhhh’ comes from the newly founded ‘Amel’, an Istanbul based label founded by Umut Özcan and Sami Baha. With ‘Oha Yuhhh’, jtamul delves into the hard hitting club trajectory, drawing inspiration from the turbulent city of Istanbul. Influenced by the city's pulsating streets, car sound system culture and Arabesk music, jtamul seamlessly blends high-intensity Istanbul sounds with elements from Latin club music, Jersey Club, and UK Bass.
