Biografía

Joyride is a child of the late midwest DJ scene. He learned his craft while studying music at Minnesota State University - Moorhead (MSUM), living in the dorms, trying to find a niche in Fargo's very active rave scene in the early 2000's. House parties were the fare to begin with, his first records coming to him through his roles at MSUM's college radio station, DragonRadio 1500am. Sensory Overload Environments and CoachAnd6 gave Joyride his first gigs on a broader stage, where he played a unique blend of UK 2-step, Garage, US Breakbeats and House music. Even today, Joyride's focus is on putting "fun" on the dance floor. Sing-a-long songs, familiar melodies, mash-ups and remixes make sure that everyone can find a groove. Joyride seldom uses popular DJ software like Serato or Traktor because he feels that "these tools create an unnecessary barrier between the dance floor and the DJ. Vinyl is the most tangible and most fun way to relate music, although the sampling and looping power of CD players has been very useful to my style. Mostly, I just want to see smiles coming back my way." The Icedbreaks Crew, Joyride's DJ team since 1999, are responsible for driving the soulful, motown and R&B influenced dance floor grooves as the early rave promoters died off and club nights became the common consumption point for electronic music. Icedbreaks has held countless club events, private events, summer barbecues for the public, and fundraising events for non-profit groups over the years. From 2003 - 2005, Joyride worked closely with Eblaw Productions to open Playmaker's original House of Rock, and host weekly "Black Light Ladies Night" under the auspice of Club City in Moorhead. These years also brought Joyride residencies at the Old Broadway and Club Eclipse. After 5 years at DragonRadio at MSUM, Joyride graduated with a Public Relations degree and had an 10-week internship in San Diego, CA under Eblaw Records where he worked as lead recording technician in their new studio and created a trade-show marketing/outreach program for the company. When he returned to Fargo, Joyride became a pivotal member of community radio station, KNDS 96.3FM, where he hosts a 2-hour dance/remix/mash-up music based program every Friday night. Joyride is the Program Director for the station's Friday night programming, where he built the well-known and popular Friday Night Frequency Sessions. He works as an Ombudsman for the station, raising underwriting dollars, public donations and making public appearances at dance events throughout the region.
