At 21 years old, Josh Plews has been immersed in the superlative club scene of Leeds for half a decade. At the age of 16, Josh began exploring the most discerning dance floors around the city, discovering nights like Back To Basics, System and Filth after collecting flyers for his bedroom since the age of 13, which increased his curiousness about what these places were like… After experiencing these dance floors first hand, Josh’s love of house and techno developed and it was a year later that he got his first pair of decks and began learning to mix. After his early years listening to trance and progressive house, the transition to a more underground sound of house and techno brought with it elements of several types of electronic music that Josh has grown to love over the past 10 years. Throughout his college years, Josh transitioned to mixing vinyl and began producing music, which saw him apply for a degree at Leeds Beckett University to study Music Technology. Throughout the past few years Josh has been refining his skills as both a producer and a DJ, both on his own and with his good friend Aden Konrad, who he collaborates with as Gas House Kids. Last year, whilst playing at a super-traditional Sunday after hours in the student rich area of Headingley in Leeds, Josh caught the attention of Back To Basics co-founder Dave Beer, who has since taken Josh under his wing for his third year university placement in organising Basics’ legendary parties that have been running in Leeds for 25 years next year. Today, Josh spins regularly at the club as one of Basics ‘New School’ DJ’s with the Leeds based TMS and Ethan Marin. Having played alongside many of the residents he has looked up to since beginning to collect flyers for the party, such as James Barnsley, Ralph Lawson and Tristan Da Cunha, he is working his hardest to maintain the clubs international reputation as one of the best parties in the world.
