Joiah
Biografía
While at home, Joiah’s mom would grace the environment with compilations from Buddha Bar, Cafe Del Mar Hotel Costes, and songs from artists like Saint Germain, Jamiroquai, Bill Withers, Barry White, Bee Gees, Shakira, and more. Joiah’s grandpa, on the other hand, was an avid classical music collector and lover. Because of her multicultural background and international family friends, there was a lot of world music playing in the house and car rides. Depeche Mode and good Italian classics like Lucio Battisti and Adriano Celentano were continuously played during the rides with her dad instead. By the time she was eleven, she had entered the Cesare Pollini Conservatorium in her city. Unfortunately, she had to stop after four years because of her commitment to sports and competitions (horseback riding) and simultaneously attending school. Despite the circumstances, it didn’t stop her from continuing to play and sing. After graduating high school, she moved to Miami, Florida, with her whole family to study Music Business at Miami Dade College. It wasn’t until she was twenty that she bought Logic Pro X and started teaching herself how to make music. During her first years in Miami, Joiah experimented with writing hip-hop/soul songs and collaborated with Florida-based producers. Miami’s music scene was vast and eclectic.. It was a great place of inspiration and talent that opened a world of musical variety. During this time, Joiah started collecting music, DJing, and working for Mixed in Key, a software company that creates plugins for DJs and producers.
Joiah is now living in Amsterdam. Captivated and in love with the scene, she is pursuing her career in the Dutch capital, combining her knowledge in engineering and working as a music director/editor & fashion sound designer for Numéro Netherlands magazine. A multidisciplinary at heart, Joiah sings on her tracks and produces her music. She is now part of Klassified Records, a Dutch label by Thomas & Julien De Bie (Parallelle).
Joiah’s sound is warm, gritty, and peachy, fluctuating between house breaks and minimal with soulful vocals. Her DJ sets will incorporate many of the latter and surprisingly shift to a faster pace of shades of techno. A juxtaposition of 90’s grooves, sensual ethereal vocals, and deep synthesized sounds. Her music is meant to be listened to in various scenarios and at different times of the day, not only on the dancefloor.
