Biografía

“JAY CARDER IS THE REAL DEAL.” – ARTWORK It’s not often that someone comes along with this much music, wit and positive energy: but that’s precisely what’s happened in the case of Jay Carder. And don’t just take our word for it: some of the biggest, globally-approved DJs in the world are also down, from Artwork to Madam X, who are fans of both her music and everyday use of puns. Having thrown and played at parties in the underground dance community for ~8 years, her unique connection to the dance floor is key to her energy and ethos. Jay is currently a promoter and resident DJ for Birmingham-born, London-based Voyage events, who've seen the likes of Haai, Shanti Celeste, Azu Tiwaline and Al Wootton through the doors. Growing up in South East London, she started her promoter/DJ journey throwing London-based events with house collective 4 To The Floor, which attracted house dancers, hustlers, b-boys, voguers, waackers and other dance styles from Paris, Japan, Berlin and major dance cities from around the world. It was at these Sunday parties she learnt the art of selecting music to make crowds *move* – dancers are unforgiving when it comes to a flat beat; they want to feel groove, whatever the genre. From Fela to Bonobo, Jay's wide-ranging influences are rooted in music with soul, groove and depth. She's played internationally alongside the likes of Modeselektor, Artwork, The Chemical Brothers, Special Request, Honey Dijon & more. Fabric, Printworks, Village Underground and Ibiza’s Pikes are some of the clubs on her radar, and festivals include Field Day, Lost Village, Snowbombing (Austria), Boomtown, Secret Garden Party, Asa Baako (Ghana), Meet Me There Weekender (Ghana) and Gottwood, with 2022 seeing her first Glastonbury debut. We also can’t forget that in her heart, Jay has a very special place for radio. She's built a name for herself outside of the club scene as a truly meditative selector through shows showcasing late night IDM, trip hop and instrumental hip hop from around the world. Most namely, through her 'House of Carder' collaboration with India's Wavlngth on Soho Radio, she's featured Indian artists every month for four years. The shows lean towards chilled, after-hours sounds, and aims to offer a unique UK-based space for India's incredibly talented community of DJs and producers. Further radio, alongside guest appearances and cover for Madam X's Kaizen show on NTS, includes a 2022 residency on Rinse FM and cover presenter for Emerald on The Dance Show.
