Jan Orozco
Biografía
Jan Orozco Prat, known simply as Jan (Barcelona, Spain; November 3, 2006), is one of the
most promising producers and composers in the international music scene. He is the son of
Antonio Orozco, a Spanish singer and composer, and Susana Prat, an entrepreneur. Jan
started getting involved in the world of music from a very young age, and as he himself
acknowledges, “what inspired me to make music was growing up next to my father, listening
to his music and being on his tours”.
He released his first production in August 2023, a remix of Milo J and Taiu’s song “Rara
Vez,” with a combination of electronic and house music. Until this year 2023, Jan’s musical
sources had been rap, hip hop, and pop, these being the artist’s preferred genres. However,
his recent interest in electronic music has led to the beginning of his musical career in this
way.
Jan is a young talent with extraordinary musical training. He plays the piano and drums with
absolute mastery. In drums, for example, he has taken the prestigious Rock School Exams
and has already completed grade 7 out of 8 possible grades. This year he will start and
complete the last one. The piano has also been key in his compositions and as he himself
confirms “thanks to the piano I have been able to understand music”. In addition to this, he
has studied for 10 years at the Barcelona Film School in Vilanova i la Geltrú (Catalonia Film
School).
Jan is a producer and composer with a methodology and academic training that allows him
to compose at a high level even as a teenager. “When composing, I like to start by creating a
chord progression depending on what I want to express in that song: joy, love, sadness or
any other emotion”.
Jan’s goal is “to become a recognized and important producer in the music industry. To work
with the best and have the world know my productions”.
During the past summers, Jan has performed as a DJ in very important places, although as
he himself says, “my goal is not to become a DJ. It is part of the path and it helps me a lot to
understand what people really want to hear and feel. Having played music these last
summers has helped me improve my stage presence, my confidence, and, above all, get
closer to people in a very personal way, and get to know what they like and how they like it”.
Like any teenager, Jan has completed his academic training in recent years, studying at the
British School of Barcelona: “From 9am to 4pm, from Monday to Friday, I went to school. In
addition, during the week, I dedicated two days to drums and two days to piano. Since I was
14 years old, I have been preparing to take the GCSE (General Certificate of Secondary
Education) exams, including the Music exam”, which he passed with a very good grade in
2023.
Jan has been practicing kickboxing several days a week for the past 10 years, and this
summer of 2023, he achieved a black belt in this discipline, which requires great dedication
and commitment.
Football has also been an important sport in Jan’s life, where he has played in Sitges, his
place of residence in recent years, until he decided to focus 100% on his studies and
musical training.
As the artist himself acknowledges, “on a normal day, most of the time that I don’t spend on
school or sports, I’m listening to music. And lately, after finishing the British School exams,
I’ve also spent time composing”.
Regarding his preference for collaborating with other artists, Jan states that “I don’t have a
preference for artists, but for ideas. I would like to work with people who have the same
passion as I do, who share the same musical ideas and the same predisposition to create
unique things. I would like to meet artists with whom I connect and with whom we can create
things together that make us vibrate”.
To continue, “What I really want to achieve is that when someone listens to my music, they
feel something. It doesn’t matter what kind of emotion each person feels, because I believe
that it is up to the listener to determine that. I don’t know if I will make electronic music
throughout my career, but whatever genre I choose, I want people who listen to my music to
feel emotions when they do”.
Jan will be studying at one of the world’s most important music schools in England for the
next 2 years. The school has 350 students, most of whom are international and come from
different parts of the world, all selected for exceptional talent.
The school has a solid academic record and has achieved the highest contextual
value-added score after age 16 of all schools in the UK. This takes into account students’
achievements upon entry and measures the improvements they make during their courses
of study.
“When I talked to my family about how I wanted my education to be in the coming years, it
was clear to me that the musical part of my education should be a priority. And this school
meets those expectations,” according to Jan himself. Musicians such as Hans Zimmer or
artists like Emily Blunt have passed through it, as well as dozens of relevant people who
have had a great impact on the world.
This 2023 has been the beginning of Jan’s musical career, who is already working on many
more projects that will be released in the coming months, within the genre of electronic and
house music, and which will be 100% self-composed for the most part.
In addition, Jan has created his own record label (The Penthouse Records) which will
undoubtedly make a lot of noise.
