If you’ve ever found yourself grooving in a dewy field at sunrise, surrounded by smiling strangers and basslines thick enough to hug, there’s a good chance Jack DiY had something to do with it. Jack was one of the founding troublemakers behind the legendary DiY Sound System, flying the flag for the UK’s underground house scene since it was all about fax machines, flyers, and finding generators that worked. Forged in the free party fires of the late '80s and early '90s, he’s been spinning tunes, dodging bureaucracy, and keeping dancefloors weird and wonderful ever since. DiY Sound System wasn’t just a sound, it was (and still is) a movement. Part rave, part rebellion, and all heart, it brought thousands together in squatted warehouses and muddy fields. Club nights like Bounce and Floppy Disco gave the chaos a home, but the ethos stuck; music first, money later (if at all). 35 years later, and Jack’s still at it, grinning behind the decks like it’s his first gig. From guest slots in Nottingham (where it all began) with the mighty Smokescreen Soundsystem, to Ibiza’s sun-drenched madness at Pikes, he’s been busy conjuring the same free party magic, just with slightly better shoes. When he's not serving up underground beats or orchestrating joyful chaos, Jack’s busy building something new; You Are Here, a London club night with a big heart and no VIP section. Teaming up with Andy Riley (Inland Knights), they’ve been organising nights focused on deep underground house with some serious selectors guesting. Names like Grace Sands and Lance Desardi have already passed through, and the vibe’s only getting stronger. Whether it’s a festival, free party, field, an intimate London loft, or a sunlit terrace in Ibiza, Jack DiY doesn’t just play music, he carries the torch for a culture that refuses to sell out. Still smiling, still digging, and still dancing to his own beat.
